The Roof of Africa inflicted pain and suffering for the 45th time when the event was held in the Kingdom of Mountains in November 2011. This race shares accolades with events like Erzberg, Romaniacs, Hell’s Gate and The Tough One, and only the fittest and strongest survive this epic three-day Hard Enduro.
The Kingdom of Lesotho is one of the toughest challenges anyone would expect to face, as the race organisers attempt to drain the energy out of every competitor. The route takes the riders up and down treacherous rocky climbs and rivers with names like Mankanuba, Bushmans, Free Fall, Spiderman, Mad Cow and Belekomo, to name just a few.
Starting with a manic race through the streets of Maseru gets the thousands of cheering fans race ready, and the next two days, covering 300km-plus and 20 hours in the saddle, see very few make it to the finish line at the summit of Bushmans.
The race has been dominated by New Zealander Chris Birch for the last three years, but Britain’s Graham Jarvis, a magician on a motorcycle, South Africa’s home-grown hero Jade Gutzeit and the likes of young Marc Torlage, experience Darryl Curtis and German legend Andreas ‘Letti’ Lettenbacher will all be fighting to dethrone the Kiwi.
The Roof of Africa is a brutal challenge of man and machine against terrain – to compete in this race is an adventure, but to win is a conquest.
Teams from more than 20 countries arrived at Tolmezzo, Italy, determined to break Spain’s dominance of the Trial des Nations.
What followed was masterclass in Trial riding from Toni Bou, Adam Raga, Jeroni Fajarado and Albert Cabestany, a display of skill which ensured an eighth win in a row for the Spanish.
The official review is packed with stunning highlights of the incredible riding, including the heroics of the British team – Michael Brown, James Dabill, Jack Challoner and Dougie Lampkin – in their pursuit of the runaway winners.
Carlos Checa put his reputation for wild riding behind him to take his first Superbike World Championship in style, holding off the young chargers, old rivals and former MotoGP star Marco Melandri to take the title with a round to spare.
Checa’s stunning rides on the Ducati deserve watching again and again, but there’s even more to this year’s Official Review than the championship chase.
Over two discs we relive action from all 13 rounds – that’s 26 fast and furious races to enjoy again – including every vital pass and spectacular crash. Among the highlights are 250cc World Champion Melandri’s race-winning skills, Eugene Laverty’s stunning rides, including his Monza double, Jonathan Rea’s incredible return from injury and Tom Sykes taking a wonderful maiden victory, and Kawasaki’s first win since 2006.
Reigning champion Max Biaggi had a year to forget, but British teammate Leon Camier stepped up to carry the Aprilia flag in the closing rounds, plus Nori Haga was as entertaining as ever! Incredible action footage recalls the vital highlights of every race of a scintillating Superbike season. This was also the final season for Australian legend Troy Corser and British hero James Toseland, who retired due to injury.
"This two-disc DVD set has all the action from Carlos Checa's triumphant year in World Superbikes. With some decent scraps, you've all the ingredients for an evening in front of the telly" Motorcycle News
